Please join us for an environmentally conscious new course ‘Artistic Kiln Forming with Recycled Glass’. Over the course of 7 weeks (2 hour sessions), students will learn the fundamentals and creative potential of how to kiln form unique designs using recycled glass bottles window glass.
The course will cover innovative contemporary methods on how to break down these materials and artistically repurpose the glass (without moulds) into compositions using pattern, shape and script. Create original designs and experiment with mark-making and expressive applications by melting the glass in a kiln and forming reliefs over cut outs, textural objects and powder. Students are encouraged to bring in their own clean and label free used glass bottles of any colour or size; each bottle will equal one final piece as the glass cannot be mixed, so bring in a few!
The class will learn how to drill holes and fix attachments as we investigate the versatility of the technique and the many ways it can be displayed/installed. Students will have the opportunity to create a few pieces including suncatchers and wall mounted features or free-standing panels to take home or gift as presents. Explore this more streamlined and eco-friendly glass practice, learn new skills and discover a sense of creative purpose to apply to your future work!
Each class will involve health & safety inductions. Students will learn how to confidently handle all materials, especially glass and lead. Each course will teach students how to cut and process glass responsibly. Along with physical samples, all content will be explained and demonstrated to the class in-depth, while individually checking-in with each student every session. It is the tutor’s
priority to make sure each student will achieve their personal goals while understanding and demonstrating an acceptable level of technical proficiency.
Students will be provided with a number of studies they can use as references, as well as drawing in class with the support of the tutor to help each student with their own painting styles and design development. While we create, students would be engaged through discussions about the artistic and historic aspects of the art & craft of stained glass, not to mention they’d be provided with experiential tips and insights learnt by the tutor throughout their professional career.
Tools and general materials will be provided to use in class and are included in the price of the course. Additional specialised glass or personal tools to keep, can be ordered from the Tutor to take home at an additional cost.
Thursday evening at 6.30pm to 8.30pm. 7 Weeks. Cost: €300
