Artistic Stained Glass Painting

Tutor:  Julia Gonyou.

I am a British/Canadian Stained-Glass Artist passionately committed to producing original, environmentally conscious stained-glass art. I find technical variety and experimentation to be a source of sustenance and infinite inspiration. Having been interested in art from a young age, I began stained glass as a hobby in my adolescence. After completing University I pursued stained
glass as a career and gained experience through grants, studio placements and advanced courses.  For more than a decade, I have contributed to a range of complex conservation and contemporary architectural projects, working for a range of technically diverse artistic glass studios in over eight countries.
Please join us for an exciting new course ‘Artistic Stained-Glass Painting’. Over the course of 10 weeks (2.5-hour sessions), students will learn the fundamental techniques and creative potential of painting on glass. The course will cover the advanced layering techniques of glass painting, using traditional grisaille, enamel and silver stain. To liberate your painting styles, we’ll experiment with expressive painting and mark making techniques; using both stencils and free-hand applications.
Students will have the opportunity to create multiple layered paintings and samples to take home.

Explore these medieval practices, learn new skills and discover a sense of creative freedom to apply to your future work!

Each class will involve health & safety inductions. Students will learn how to confidently handle all materials, especially glass and lead. Each course will teach students how to cut and process glass responsibly. Along with physical samples, all content will be explained and demonstrated to the class in-depth, while individually checking-in with each student every session. It is the tutor’s
priority to make sure each student will achieve their personal goals while understanding and demonstrating an acceptable level of technical proficiency. Students will be provided with a number of studies they can use as references, as well as drawing in class with the support of the tutor to help each student with their own painting styles and design development. While we create, students would be engaged through discussions about the artistic and historic aspects of the art & craft of stained glass, not to mention they’d be provided with experiential tips and insights learnt by the tutor throughout their professional career.

Tools and general materials will be provided to use in class and are included in the price of the course. Additional specialised glass or personal tools to keep, can be ordered from the Tutor to take home at an additional cost.

Wednesday evening at 6.30pm to 9.00pm               10 Weeks         Cost: €360
