COMMENCING ON 6th OCTOBER

Tutor: Ranald Milne
Bridge is widely recognised as being the King of card-games. It is extremely popular in Ireland with over 30,000 registered players in clubs ranging from novice to expert. Bridge combines brain training with socialising and can be enjoyed by anyone, at any age, at any standard. As Colm Tóibín, the writer, says, “playing bridge is probably one of the best ways of training to be as intelligent as possible. Along the way, it will also help you to become cunning and imaginative, teach you to use your memory, and show you when to be daring and when to be cautious.”
About the Course
Classes are designed to be fun and so interaction is encouraged. Information and theory is presented using Power-point and learning is assisted by table quizzes and hand play. Full notes are provided at the end of each class, so students just need to bring themselves!
Module 1 – Mini-Bridge: This module focuses on the practical aspects of Bridge and the student is quickly involved in card-play. By the end, students will be able to play Mini-Bridge with friends or family. Module 2 – Foundation Bidding & Play I will follow in January and Module 3 – Foundation Bidding & Play II after Easter. By the end, students should be able to join a Novice Club

This course, led by a professional theatre-maker, aims
to build confidence for performers (and would-be performers)
by increasing awareness of theatre craft. Over the twenty
weeks, we'll work towards a performance of 1-2 short plays,
which will be presented at the end of the second session
(March 2011). The text/s will be chosen by the group and
facilitator, with rehearsals starting from the second
week. The focus will be on exploring the text physically
and vocally to get the most honest and convincing performances
from the actors rather than on making a finished production.
All members of the group will have the chance to explore
playing a role. We will start each class with vocal and
physical warm-up exercises and theatre games. These will
help individuals to become aware of their own performance
strengths and weaknesses and will help create an essential
